Explaining Your Business Online

I know why I’m visiting a website, and I know what I’m looking for. But do you as a website owner?

You’ve probably sat in conferences or sales meetings and you were asked to give your 30 second elevator pitch. If you didn’t have one, you spent some time developing one. It needed to be unique, relevant, and compelling for the other person to ask for your business card or express some kind of interest.

May I suggest that it’s the same with your website.

How well do you explain your business, products, or services online says a lot about your company? Image is still very important in these times.

Explaining your business takes time and experience. Perhaps you need an outside marketing consultant to help develop this intentional and strategic way of developing a message. It took us at Texstar Web.com three major website overhauls to finally come to what we felt best communicated our brand and message to those searching for us online. It isn’t easy, and anyone who says it is, is a marketing genius. I haven’t met many of those, have you?

Here is what we have learned as a staff with over 15 years combined online experience:

If your website is clean, easy to follow, and especially if you tell me in just a few seconds who you are and what you have to offer, then I’m probably interested. After all, I’m at your website for a reason.

If you’re able to explain to me in less than 5-10 seconds through your web design and content why I should consider you, then I probably will. If not, I probably won’t.

It really is that simple. If you haven’t given thought to your messaging and branding, a web design company may be able to give you some direction, but they can’t tell necessarily tell you what to say and how to say it. You know your company, hopefully inside and out.

It’s your job to explain your company. Once you can do that, then a web design and Search Engine Optimization company can help you tailor your content to your target audience.

Have you developed your online elevator pitch design? If not, it’s never to late to start.

Leave a comment and let us know what you think. How do you explain your business?
