If Your Website Did One Thing, What Would it Be?
on November 30th, 2010 at 8:24 amRecently, I was asked; “If your website did on thing, what would it be?”
Great question, and fortunately I had an answer. It would introduce me to new prospects that would be warm to hot and ready to sign deals. It’s a prospecting conversion tool.
Do you know the answer to the question?
Most businesses don’t know, because they’ve never given the time to think through the purpose, strategic objectives and goals of the website. For many, a website is like the movie, The Field of Dreams. If you build it, they will come. Not true!
Anyone who has owned a website or blog for a length of time can tell you it just doesn’t work that way. You can’t reach everybody on the web, and shouldn’t want to.
In the big picture, your website is in all likely hood either a marketing, educating, informing, or e-commerce tool, or any combination thereof. You have to decide it’s purpose. It will inform you of who you are trying to reach, i.e. your targeted audience, and the websites design, layout and function.
If you know your websites purpose, and who are trying to reach, then you can begin to discern how you will reach your targeted audience. That’s where your search engine marketing, social media, and advertising come into play.
Having a website isn’t about just saying you have one. It’s about using this powerful tool to be a main component in reaching your prospects and converting them into sales. You’re website is your friend and should be one of your biggest investments. Is it? Or is it just there to say you have one?
Do you have some ideas about the one thing you want your website to do? Drop us a note, we’d love to hear your point of view.
