Top 8 Ideas for Real Estate Agent Blogs

If you are a real estate agent and not blogging, you should be. It is a great way to reach prospects and stay in touch with your clients as well as build relationships and rapport.

Realtors have a wealth of knowledge about local communities, school districts, retail outlets, unique things going on in your area, what’s happening in local government, and a lot more. If you want to reach prospects, you must become a person of influence who provides value.

The word value is beginning to lose its luster. So, let me give you ten ways you can provide value to your website visitors:

#1 – Don’t just write about houses – your clients and prospects can only view so many houses on your website before they feel overloaded. Your blog should be value driven, not sales driven.

After selling a home, get some testimonies, both in video and text, of why your clients bought that new home. Be sure to get lots of pictures as well both before and after they move it.

#2 – That leads me to #2, visit your clients at their home at least once a year. Ask them ahead of time if you can spotlight them and their home. Remember, it’s not about the house, it’s about the “home”. Take some new pictures to show off all the changes they made to their home and how they “made” it theirs.

Do a brief video interview with them as well. You’ll want to ask them to talk about some of the things they have done to the house and real estate property.

Then, post the before / after pictures of the property and videos.

The point here – it’s not about you, the Realtor, it’s about your client and the “home” they’ve made. They’ll love the attention, never forget you, and best yet when it’s time to sell 5 – 10 years down the road who are they coming back to.

The BEST part, they will be showing all their neighbors, friends, and family your posting. Where else could you get that kind of exposure?

#2 – Inform you audience of what’s happening in local politics without being political. Everyone wants to know what’s going on around town from roads and infrastructure to police and fire.  If you can’t attend meetings, go online and read through the minutes or ask for them via the public information act a week after the meeting.

#3 – Keep your website visitors up-to-date on what is happening in the school district. They say there are only two things can really stir someone up. Mess with with their money and mess with their kids. Well, the school district does both. You can help inform your audience of what is happening by attending the monthly school board meeting (okay at least every other month), read the ISD’s newsletter, and for sure keep up with their TEA rankings.

Can’t make the meetings, again you can get the information from school districts web site or ask for it via the public information act.

#4 – Attend Planning and zoning meetings to be aware of the growth or potential growth happening in your community. Are you keeping up with what businesses or organizations are coming to town.  P&Z Board meetings can be extremely informative.

#6 – Make your blog posts personal – Is there something going on in town that your are involved in or believe in strongly. Share your experiences with the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, civic events, or just take pictures of the local parade and post them. Showcase the community and people will come to your site.

#7 – If there is a sale at a local store, publish it to your blog and social media ASAP! Who doesn’t love a GREAT sale. So Home Depot is having a great sale that you ran across, or the grocery store is discontinuing an item and it’s cheap, take a picture with your cell phone and post it. People will keep coming back looking for and expecting more.

#8 – Avoid selling on your website – Remember, it’s not your blog, social media, or website’s job to make a sale. That’s your job. Your online presence allows you the flexibility and opportunity to become a person of influence, a “Go To” person.

Follow these eight tips, and in time your site will become a local favorite, and you just may become an online superstar! Remember, this is a tool that can create opportunities, but only if you use it.
